What isn't burned by the flames themselves, will be compromised with smoke damage, smoke odors, and ash covering every leftover inch, which is a whole other type of hazard. Water damage will also be present from putting the fire out, this will need to be pumped out and dehumidified properly so that mold does not form. There may be structural damages, seen or unseen, that require expert care to discover and repair, and
there is a lot of clean up required.
Unified Restoration Systems,
was founded for just this purpose, we're here to help 24/7 and holidays are no exception.
We are Akron
Locals, located on Mogadore Rd in Akron, Ohio and a branch of Unified Construction Systems, our parent company, that has handled major construction projects over multiple states on the East Coast.
Both licensed and bonded, and we have decades of experience rebuilding the livelihood of business owners and homeowners that have suffered fire and smoke damage across Northeast Ohio. Our extensive warehouse of equipment is ready to serve the restoration needs of our Akron Neighbors, meaning we can quickly get a team to your location with all the materials and manpower needed.
We act directly with your insurance company, all you must do is begin the claims process and sign the required documents, we will handle everything else! From the moment we arrive on scene, we work with the fire department to examine how severely damaged the property is, and any risks associated with entry. We take photographs for the insurance companies and work with adjusters as they are sent to the scene, so that everyone is all on the same page and understands the scope of damage and the plans for repairs.
The first step after putting out the fire is to remove any standing water left in the home or office. We use large pump trucks that move massive amounts of water, and where most needed, deploy fans and dehumidifiers to areas that are wet but not damaged by flames - If the entire building is declared as a loss, drying and dehumidifying are not applicable because the structure cannot be saved as it is. Next, we board up entry points to the home or office building to prevent unauthorized entry.
Once we finish spotting areas of concern and blocking off entry to outsiders, we create your unique damage assessment report, in which we take all the images of the fire and water damage and determine the total damage caused by the fire to your property along with the value of it. The report also helps to collaborate with insurance companies, providing valuable documentation of each type of damage, to ensure a fair settlement is paid out. Once the damage assessment is done, we can get to work.
After the damage assessment report is completed, the heavy lifting starts. Heavy machinery and dump trucks will remove and haul away the rubble and parts that cannot be saved in the home or business.
This step is important because it gets us to where we can see the bare-bones structure and begin with reconstruction of the most critical architecture, the foundation and frame of the building.
Machinery is brought in to dehumidify the wet areas so that mold does not begin to grow. Smoke odors are removed with specialized ventilation machines, and our team does a deep cleaning of the areas with soot and ash. After the final smoke damage clean up, we can move onto restoring functions to the home or business.
Once the frame and foundation are cleaned, repaired, and declared fit, we can begin on the equally important functions of the building: the plumbing, electrical, HVAC, insulation, windows and doors.
Finally, the finishes can be added: the siding, the flooring, the baseboards and window framing. Once these are added the building is nearly ready to be turned back over to the owner and the restoration project is almost completed. These finishes are some of the first areas burned by flames because they're mostly wooden or plastic-based and because of their open exposure in the home or office.
Fortunately, during this step, much of the work can be done at the same time as other work. The siding can be done from the outside while carpenters add flooring, baseboards, and window frames and as one job completes, the crew is able to swap the rooms they're working in to complete these finishing touches quickly and efficiently.
Once we complete work on the finishes, your home or business will be back, and better than ever! Your brand-new building is the start of life returning to normal and Unified Restoration Services is in the business of helping Akron and Northeast Ohio return to normal after one of the worst things has happened to them, a fire.
