Emergency Services for damages from Fire, Water, Storms, and Mold

Back to Life before the Disaster

What do we start, you may be thinking?  We start getting your life back together!  During the worst times, we are there to take over the situation and guide you back to life before the disaster.

We start with a damage assessment, to see how much damage the fire, flood, storm, or other catastrophe, has caused.
This damage assessment is what we use to create a plan to restore your property.  The damaged property assessment like a map, showing us where the danger is, and what gear is required to correct the damages.

The Damage Assessment will contain images of the fire, water, storm, or mold damage to the areas of the home or business, from the roof to the basement, from inside the walls containing plumbing and electric lines, to the rooms inside.  Damages from disasters can be well hidden, and our thorough inspection process is designed to catch them all.

The Recovery Plan in Action

With all of the damage documented, we can start to make a plan.  We block off areas that are dangerous to enter, so that only trained crew members can access them.  Next, we begin by removing any debris that can be removed, tree limbs, concrete, drywall, and broken glass from storm damage, burnt objects from a fire (only after the fire department has done their inspection), and floating possessions left over from a flood.

Disaster do's and don'ts:

Don't:

Don't use any electricity in the building - Electricity and water don't mix.  Fire, flood, and storm damages all bring water damage with them, don't risk starting another fire by using electricity in a building hit by a disaster

Don't Clean up - That's right, don't clean up.  Hidden damages may present as an area that looks alright to the eye, but it is actually not safe to move around the building for any reason.  Don't try to pick up damaged objects, or clean off the carpet, or try to remove messes from the walls.  Wait for the Fire Dept to clear the scene and let the restoration professionals handle it please, we don't want any other injuries to people or damage to property to occur!

Don't eat any food in the building - Any food is most likely contaminated.  Food that has been exposed to smoke, ash, and dirty flood waters should not be eaten and should be disposed of properly.

Don't stay in the building - This may sound harsh but the building should not be occupied until it is determined safe by a professional, this goes hand in hand with our don't clean up rule.  Hidden damages may be present and need to be identified so that more injuries do not happen.

Do:

Call your insurance company - As soon as you can safely make the call to your insurance, you should let them know about the disaster by making a claim.

Call a 24hr professional restoration company like Unified Restoration Systems - For fast emergency response and restoration services 24/7, as well as documentation of the fire, flood, storm, or mold damage and losses required by insurance companies (234) 571-2005

Locate and remove sensitive documents - If it is declared safe to enter (for example: After the Fire Dept has cleared the scene and have allowed persons to enter) locate and remove sensitive documents like passports, birth certificates, etc.  We recommend a fireproof safe before disasters strike to help protect these files.

Turn off and unplug electronic devices - Again, if it is declared safe to enter, unplug devices that use electricity.  This can help prevent electricity mixing with any remaining water on the premises.

Practice good hygiene - The chemicals in soot and waste water are actually harmful to humans and should not be ingested or left on the skin.  Wash your hands often if you can safely, do not touch your face, and consider wearing a mask while inside of the structure.
